Cycle time and cost estimator
Add one row per operation to get the total cutting time, the time per part including setup and loading, and a rough machining cost from your shop rate (machine plus operator cost per hour). Good for a first quote or for comparing process plans.
⏱Operations
| Operation | Dia. D mm | Vc m/min | Feed | Flutes | Length L mm | Passes | Time |

$Setup, batch and shop rate
Cutting time (per part)—
Per part (incl. share of setup)—
Total for the batch—
Rough cost (per part)—
Rough cost (batch)—
Turning, drilling: Vf = f × n; milling: Vf = fz × flutes × n (n = 1000 × Vc ÷ (π × D))
Operation time = L ÷ Vf × passes; tapping goes in and out, so × 2
Per part = cutting time + loading + setup ÷ batch size
Notes
- Rapid moves, tool changes and approach distances are not included, so a real cycle time will be longer. Add an allowance to the non-cutting time.
- Shop rates vary a lot between companies, machines and regions. Enter your own; the default is only an example.
- Material, heat treatment, finishing, inspection and shipping are not included.
