In G96, S is the cutting speed (m/min), and spindle speed rises automatically as diameter D gets smaller. On a lathe, always set a spindle speed limit (G50 S in system A) before G96. Figure shows an example with Vc = 200 m/min.

≠Differences between controls and machines

The same code can be written or assigned differently depending on the CNC control and the machine builder. Always check your machine’s manual.
