Cylindrical interpolation

Format and notes

G07.1 C_ (ON with the cylinder radius) … G07.1 C0 (OFF)
Milling side: G07.1 A_ (B_ or C_) (rotary axis name and radius)

Example

G00 C0 ;
G07.1 C30. ;            (ON as a cylinder of radius 30 mm)
G01 G42 Z-10. C90. F100 ;
… (C is an angle. The NC converts it to a circumferential length as radius × angle)
G40 … ;
G07.1 C0 ;              (OFF)

This is only a skeleton example written by Kezuriba. How the plane is specified and how tool radius compensation is applied differ by model, so compare it with the examples in your operator's manual.

Diagram: cylindrical interpolation: programming on the unrolled outer surface

C (angle)rZ (along the axis)Arc length s = r × θUnrolled plane (programmed in G07.1)Cylinder grooveEnd mill tip in groove
The groove on the cylinder's outer surface is programmed as lines on the unrolled plane (Z across, the circumferential direction up and down). The circumferential length is radius × angle, so the radius you give in G07.1 changes the shape of the groove.

Calculator: cylinder angle and length along the circumference

Radius r for G07.1—mm
Length of angle C—mm
Angle of length s—deg
Per degree—mm

s = π × d × C ÷ 360 = r × θ (rad)

When converting a groove width or pitch from the drawing into an angle, the answer depends on which diameter the dimension refers to. At an outer diameter of 60 mm and a groove-bottom diameter of 52 mm, the same 90° is 47.12 mm and 40.84 mm.

Check: d 60 mm, C 90° → 47.12 mm. s 10 mm → 19.099°.

Differences between controls and machines

The same code can be written or assigned differently depending on the CNC control and the machine builder. Always check your machine’s manual.
