G76
Machining center, LatheModal, group 09Fine boring cycle
⌨On machining centers
G76 X_ Y_ Z_ R_ Q_ (shift amount) P_ (dwell) F_ K_
- At the hole bottom the spindle stops at a fixed angle (orientation), shifts by Q away from the cutting edge, then retracts. Leaves no return marks on the bore wall
- The shift direction is set by a parameter (Setting 27 on Haas). If it does not match the edge direction of the boring bar, the tool cuts the bore wall
- Q is unsigned

◎On lathes: Multiple thread cutting cycle (compound thread cutting cycle)
The same number means something different on lathes (FANUC-type G-code system A). Group 00.
G76 P_ (m: finishing passes, r: chamfer amount, a: tool nose angle, 2 digits each) Q_ (minimum depth of cut) R_ (finishing allowance); G76 X(U)_ Z(W)_ R_ (taper amount) P_ (thread height) Q_ (first depth of cut) F_ (lead)
- Two-block format. P in the first line is 6 digits: 2 digits for the number of finishing passes + 2 digits for the chamfer amount + 2 digits for the tool nose angle (e.g. P012060)
- P in the second line is the thread height and Q is the first depth of cut (both radius values). P, Q, and R have different meanings in the first and second lines
- Single-flank cutting with a constant cutting amount per pass, so the load on the tool is light (Siemens ISO T)
- F is the lead, not the pitch (for multi-start threads, pitch × number of starts)
- The Siemens ISO T example writes X/Z/P/Q in the second line in least input increments without a decimal point (e.g. P3680 Q1800). Check the machine's decimal point handling

≠Differences between controls and machines
The same code can be written or assigned differently depending on the CNC control and the machine builder. Always check your machine’s manual.
| Source | Machine | Item | Detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Haas | Machining center | Format | I/J can be used instead of Q to specify the shift direction and amountHaas warns that if it is commanded while the spindle is stopped (M05), it becomes a cycle without spindle rotation |
| Haas | Lathe | Format | G76 X(U)_ Z(W)_ K_ (thread height) D_ (first depth of cut) A_ (tool nose angle) I_ (taper) F_ P_ Q_ (one-block format)Haas uses the one-block format, and A has no decimal point. The finishing allowance is Setting 86, and chamfering is Setting 95/96 and M23/M24 |
