Drilling speeds and feeds (RPM, feed rate, cutting time)
Spindle speed, feed rate and cutting time per hole for twist drills.
⌀Drilling calculator
Spindle speed n—rpm
Feed rate Vf—mm/min
Cutting time (per hole)—
n = 1000 × Vc ÷ (π × D) Vf = f × n Time = L ÷ Vf
Red = input dimensions, green = rotation and motion. Schematic, not to scale.
Notes
- For a 118° point drill the cone at the tip is about 0.3 × D long. Add it to the depth for blind holes.
- For deep holes (roughly 3 × D or more), peck drilling and coolant conditions change the actual time.
All values are guides. Start from the tool maker’s recommended cutting data and adjust for your machine, workholding and coolant. Calculations run in your browser; nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
