Machining centerTool change (ATC)
⌨Format and notes
T_ M06
- T selects the next tool, and M06 swaps it with the tool in the spindle
- Whether it is commanded after returning to the change position (Z zero, 2nd reference point, etc.) or M06 returns there automatically depends on the machine
- On lathes, turret indexing is normally done by the T code alone (M06 is not used)
- Most M-codes are assigned by the machine builder (Siemens ISO: M00–M89 are defined by the machine tool builder). Always check the machine's operator's manual
≠Differences between controls and machines
The same code can be written or assigned differently depending on the CNC control and the machine builder. Always check your machine’s manual.
