JIMTOF2026 Visitor Guide: Hall-by-Hall Venue Map and Highlights

JIMTOF2026 (the 33rd Japan International Machine Tool Fair), the machine tool trade show held every two years, runs Mon, Oct 26 – Sat, Oct 31, 2026 at Tokyo Big Sight[1]. It has 1,134 exhibitors from 22 countries and regions, with 4,422 booths[11]. To see such a large venue in one day, the quickest shortcut is to learn which hall has what before you go. This guide, with our own venue map, also covers routes by goal, where to eat lunch, and what to bring.

Five things to know first
  • Mon–Sat this time. There is no Sunday; the show is open 10:00–17:00 every day (until 16:00 on the last day, Oct 31)[1]
  • East 4–6 Halls are closed for renovation. Machine tools are split across East 1–3, East 7–8 and South 1–2[1][4]
  • Everyone must pre-register. Advance (online) tickets are 1,000 yen until Sun, Oct 25; during the show, 3,000 yen. Free with an invitation[2]
  • Your visitor badge: print it in color on A4 and bring it[2]
  • It is a long way from one end of the venue to the other (East 7 ↔ South), so use the free shuttle bus to get across[6]

Venue map: what's in each hall?

JIMTOF assigns halls by type of product, so exhibits are grouped by product category[1]. Colored by the fields listed in the official booth layout search, the halls look like the map below[4].

Hall colors show the main exhibit categories. The blue dotted line is the free shuttle bus (planned route). Shapes and distances are not accurate; for exact positions, see the official venue map (PDF).
HallMain exhibit categories (as shown officially)Highlights
East 1–3 (1F)Machine tools, forming machines, controls and related software (CAD/CAM)The core area for large machine tools. A special exhibit in the Galleria in front of East 5 (humanoid robots and the machine tools that support them)[9]
East 7–8 (1F)Machine tools (including grinders), precision and optical measuring, testing equipmentThe place for grinders and measuring instruments. East 7 has a rest area and catering cars
West 1–2 and Atrium (1F)Tools (cutting tools), machine tool accessoriesCutting tools such as end mills, drills and inserts, and accessories such as tooling and chucks
West 3–4 (4F)Machine tool accessories, tools, gears, hydraulics/pneumatics, grinding wheels, diamond/CBN toolsMany smaller booths and a noticeable number of overseas exhibitors. Next door on the West Rooftop: the "World Rice Fair"
South 1–2 (1F)Machine tools (including automatic lathes), controls and related softwareAutomatic lathes, small machines and CNC controls
South 3–4 (4F)Accessories, precision measuring, controls and related software, publishing and moreSouth 4 gathers the organizer's special programs: INSIGHTS stage, AM ZONE (additive manufacturing), a kisage (hand scraping) exhibit, and hands-on making for students[9][10]
East 4–6Closed for Tokyo Big Sight's major renovation[1]

In a booth number, the leading letter(s) and first digit show the hall (e.g., E1… = East 1, W3… = West 3, WA… = Atrium, S4… = South 4). Look up the booth number of any company you want to visit in the official exhibitor search / booth layout map beforehand, and you won't get lost.

Recommended routes by goal

Each hall in the East Exhibition Halls is 90 m square[17], so just walking East 1–3 from end to end is about 270 m. If you stop to look at the exhibits, each hall takes 30–45 minutes, so the trick is to go to the halls for the categories you want to see first.

A. I want to see machine tools (equipment staff, operators)

C. First visit, or want to see everything in one day

Enter from the east, see the machine tools, and move on to South and West after lunch. Times are only a guide; if you plan to attend a talk, rearrange the schedule around its start time.

The shuttle bus route is only "planned". According to the official access page, the free shuttle bus is planned to run "Central Terminal → East 7 Hall → South 2 Hall → Central Terminal", and the in-venue jumbo taxi "South Exhibition Hall 1F → East 1 Hall → West/South Exhibition Hall 4F → South Exhibition Hall 1F". Operating times and intervals have not been announced[6].

Where to eat lunch

Most shops in the building open at 11:00 and close at 16:00.[16] Lunchtime gets crowded, so it is easier to find a seat if you go early (11:00–12:00) or after 13:30. During JIMTOF, besides the regular shops in the building, there are catering cars and boxed lunches on sale[7].

There are also self-service ticket kiosks at the venue, but they have lines at busy times. Printing it out by the day before is the surest option[3]. Many machines are demonstrated live, so the organizer asks visitors to hold young children's hands while looking around[3].

Packing checklist

JIMTOF packing checklist
Examples of what to bring. Business cards are not required, but they help if you talk with booth staff(tap to enlarge)

If you have a lot of luggage, you can use the coin lockers in the building (400–700 yen per day) or the baggage check at Entrance Plaza (500 yen per item)[15].

When to go: crowded days

The organizer expects that the last day, Sat, Oct 31, will be especially crowded (per its tour bus parking notice)[12]. At the previous show, JIMTOF2024 (Tue–Sun), Friday was the busiest (33,925 people visiting for the first time that day), and the last day, Sunday, was the quietest (5,482)[13]. This time there is no Sunday and the days of the week differ, so you can't apply that pattern directly, but for a relaxed visit, Mon–Wed mornings are your best bet.

Events and talks not to miss

  • Keynote lecture: Mon, Oct 26, from 13:00, International Conference Hall, 7F of the Conference Tower. Topic: changes in the global automotive industry landscape[8]
  • Formnext Stage: Tue, Oct 27, afternoon, INSIGHTS stage in South 4 Hall. A seminar on AM (3D printing), organized with Formnext, the German additive manufacturing show[8]
  • Special exhibits: "Humanoid Robots and Machine Tools" in the East Exhibition Halls Galleria, and "Kisage (Hand Scraping) and Robots" in South 4 Hall. There is also a hands-on kisage class[9]
  • For students: hands-on making in South 4 Hall, and student booth tours (apply online)[10]

Talks and seminars require advance application through My Page, but you can also attend on the day if seats are available[8]. Attendance fees differ by program, so check when you apply.

Access

  • About 3 min on foot from Tokyo Big Sight Station (Yurikamome)
  • About 7 min on foot from Kokusai-Tenjijo Station (Rinkai Line)[14]

Roads and parking around the venue get crowded during the show, so public transport is recommended[14]. Getting to East 7–8 Halls from the station takes a little over 10 minutes on foot outdoors (about 800 m on Google Maps' walking route).

At a booth, it helps to understand the terms and numbers right away, so the conversation goes faster.

FAQ

Can I get in without an invitation?
Yes. Register online and pay 1,000 yen for an advance (online) ticket (until Oct 25), or 3,000 yen during the show[2].
Can I see everything in one day?
You can walk quickly through all the East, West and South halls, but the venue is too big to see everything in detail. It is more realistic to decide first which halls cover the categories you want to see, and visit the rest if you have time.
Can children come in?
Junior high school students and younger get in free without registering if accompanied by a parent or guardian[2]. Many machines are running during demonstrations, so keep an eye on your children.
What about East 4–6 Halls?
They are closed during the show because of Tokyo Big Sight's renovation. The machine tools and CAD/CAM exhibits that were there last time are now spread across South 1–2 and elsewhere[1][4].
