Check first

  1. Thermal conductivity is low, so cutting heat concentrates at the cutting edge and the tool wears easily
  2. It is chemically active and reacts with the tool at high temperature, causing seizure and welding
  3. Low feed causes work hardening

Try first

  1. Keep the cutting speed low to hold down the cutting temperature
  2. Do not reduce the feed too much (so that heat escapes into the chips and work hardening is avoided)
  3. Keep the tool load constant with climb milling (chips going from thick to thin), trochoidal milling, and similar methods

Where sources differ: No Japanese primary source from a tool manufacturer was found on ignition of titanium chips itself. The basis for ignition is only the MHLW GHS classification (titanium in general) and Mitsubishi Materials' general fire precautions.
