A2017
ISO N (non-ferrous)Aluminum alloy (heat-treatable Al-Cu-Mg, 2000 series, duralumin). Standard: JIS H 4000 (aluminium and aluminium alloy sheets, plates and strips) / JIS H 4040 (aluminium and aluminium alloy rods, bars and wires) (JIS H 4040:2023).
🌐International equivalents
“Close” means composition or properties are not exactly the same. Before substituting, check the values in each standard.

Differences between the equivalents (from the sources)
- AA 2017: A92017 is among the alloys covered by ASTM B211. UACJ treats JIS 2017 as its own designation 17S
- EN EN AW-2017A: 2017A is a separate alloy registered by the EAA in 1972, with Mg 0.40-1.0 (2017 is 0.40-0.8), no upper limit on Ti, and Zr+Ti ≤0.25. The ISO chemical symbol for 2017 itself is AlCu4MgSi. Whether EN 573-3 contains EN AW-2017 has not been checked in primary sources
📄Related specifications (AMS, ASTM etc.)
Specifications called up on purchase orders and drawings. AMS are SAE aerospace material specifications, split by product form (bar, plate, forging), melting practice and heat treatment. Standard texts are paid, so only titles and scopes checked on the publishers’ public pages are shown.

🔧Machinability notes (as stated in the sources)
- AA comparative ratings (five grades, A-E): machinability of 2017-T4, T451 = B (corrosion resistance D, workability C)[14]
- thyssenkrupp Materials North America describes 2017 as "stronger than 2011, with good machinability; fair workability and corrosion resistance", and lists screw machine parts, rivets and fasteners as applications[15]
- The Japan Aluminium Association summarizes 2014, 2017 and 2024 as "high in strength and used for structural materials, though corrosion resistance is poor because of the high Cu content" (this is not a statement about machinability). In the same table, the free-machining alloy it lists is 2011[16][4]
- Sandvik Coromant places aluminum alloys in ISO N, and says chip control is relatively easy for alloys with more alloying elements and harder the closer the material is to pure aluminum[5]
