FCD450-10
ISO K (cast iron)Cast iron (spheroidal graphite cast iron = ductile iron; matrix mainly ferrite). Standard: JIS G 5502 (Spheroidal graphite iron castings) (JIS G 5502:2022).
🌐International equivalents
“Close” means composition or properties are not exactly the same. Before substituting, check the values in each standard.

Differences between the equivalents (from the sources)
- ISO ISO 1083:2018: A one-to-one correspondence with the ISO designations (JS/450-10, etc.) has not been confirmed in primary sources
- ASTM A536 Grade 65-45-12: In the same row as FCD450 in the Goldens' Foundry cross-reference table. 65-45-12 means tensile strength 65,000 psi (about 448 MPa), yield strength 45,000 psi (about 310 MPa) and elongation 12%. The lower limit of yield strength is higher than for FCD450-10 (280), and the elongation, 12%, also differs
- EN EN-GJS-400-18: Goldens' Foundry's table places EN-GJS-400-18 in the FCD450 / 65-45-12 row (EN-GJS-400-18 also appears in the 60-40-18 / FCD400 row of the same table). Many sources match EN-GJS-450-10, whose numbers fit the designation, but this could not be confirmed in primary sources
- GB : Often given as QT450-10 (GB/T 1348), but not confirmed in primary sources
📄Related specifications (AMS, ASTM etc.)
Specifications called up on purchase orders and drawings. AMS are SAE aerospace material specifications, split by product form (bar, plate, forging), melting practice and heat treatment. Standard texts are paid, so only titles and scopes checked on the publishers’ public pages are shown.

🔧Machinability notes (as stated in the sources)
- Sandvik Coromant: Nodular cast iron (NCI) is ISO K. It has higher strength than gray cast iron and a tendency to work-harden, so it is harder to machine than gray cast iron. The hardness of NCI is about 155–330 HB[6]
- Sumitomo Electric recommended cutting conditions (turning): for ductile cast iron (FCD450, etc.), continuous to general cutting with AC4010K at vc 180–300–450 m/min (gray cast iron is 200–400–700); interrupted cutting with AC4015K at 160–250–400; heavy interrupted cutting with AC4125K at 120–170–250. High-speed finishing with CBN (BNC500) at vc 150–350–500. AC4015K is the first recommendation for ductile cast iron[8][10]
- Sumitomo Electric evaluation example: interrupted cutting of FCD450 at vc = 450 m/min, f = 0.3 mm/rev, ap = 1.5 mm, wet[10]
- In a shaping test by the Mie Prefecture Industrial Research Institute (2020; feed 2,000 mm/min), the comparison material FCD450 (Si 2.4%, ferrite plus pearlite matrix) showed greater scatter in the maximum cutting force than solid-solution-strengthened cast iron GJS500[11]
