A5056
ISO N (non-ferrous)Aluminum alloy (non-heat-treatable Al-Mg, 5000 series). Standard: JIS H 4040 (rods, bars and wires) (JIS H 4040:2023).
🌐International equivalents
“Close” means composition or properties are not exactly the same. Before substituting, check the values in each standard.
| System | Designation | Number | Relation | Confidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| JIS | A5056 | JIS H 4040 (rods, bars and wires) | — | |
| AA | 5056 | UNS A95056 | identical (internationally registered alloy) | Agrees in 2+ sources[7][9][2] |
| EN | EN AW-5019ISO chemical symbol AlMg5) is close | EN AW-5019 | close (a separate registered alloy) | One source / reference[10][11] |

Differences between the equivalents (from the sources)
- AA 5056: A95056 is among the alloys covered by ASTM B211. UACJ treats JIS 5056 as its own designation 56S
- EN EN AW-5019: AA note 14: the former 5056A was renumbered 5019. 5019 has Si ≤0.40, Fe ≤0.50, Mn 0.10-0.6, Mg 4.5-5.6, Cr ≤0.20, Zn ≤0.20, Ti ≤0.20, Mn+Cr 0.10-0.6, so Mn and Cr are specified differently from 5056. The ISO chemical symbol for 5056 itself is AlMg5Cr. Whether EN 573-3 has EN AW-5056 has not been checked
📄Related specifications (AMS, ASTM etc.)
Specifications called up on purchase orders and drawings. AMS are SAE aerospace material specifications, split by product form (bar, plate, forging), melting practice and heat treatment. Standard texts are paid, so only titles and scopes checked on the publishers’ public pages are shown.

⚖Density
2.64 g/cm³
The AA Teal Sheets calculated value (0.095 lb/in³) agrees with UACJ's extrusion specific gravity table (56S = 5056). Note that extracting the table with pdftotext shifts it against the adjacent column and reads as 2.67 (confirmed by re-reading with coordinates)

🔧Machinability notes (as stated in the sources)
- Japan Aluminium Association alloy table: 5056 has "excellent corrosion resistance, and good surface finish after machining, anodizing and dyeing of the anodized layer". Applications are camera lens barrels, communication equipment parts and fasteners[3]
- Sandvik Coromant places aluminum alloys in ISO N, and says chip control is relatively easy for alloys with more alloying elements and harder the closer the material is to pure aluminum[4]
